Division Split: Message from the Division Governor

Division News

Dear all, you were all involved in the conversation centered on Reformation draft proposal 3.

The proposal has been evaluated, and rejected. You can see the reasons for its rejection in the attached letter. Click here to access the same.

Since receiving notification, I have spent a day reflecting on how to pass on this news to the division.

For those who saw it as a positive step, it is a disappointing outcome.

For those who saw it as a negative step, the matter is closed.

From a neutral perspective, we should reflect that we have conducted ourselves in a transparent manner – both internally and externally. We worked to a tight deadline to create a proposal that was well presented and worthy of serious consideration, which reflects well on our dedication and seriousness. Finally, we succeeded in initiating a conversation accessible to all members in Switzerland, which not all leadership teams always achieve.

The question that is now raised is, how do we continue to work for the benefit of the membership in each of our clubs?

For those members who will now be split from the greater german body, you can now consider how to maximize opportunities in the future situation, rather than dwelling on “What ifs”. Will you have your own “Nelson Mandela” response?

For those who will benefit by association with France/french, your task is to take french to the next level. French is currently “in the incubator”. There is no guarantee of its growth, and yet now you have all the reasons, and no excuses, to make the most of this promotion. Will you step up?

My personal perspective is that events in TM are there to train us in skills and experiences that we can grow from, and I count this as one of those, for all of us involved. I hope you had the same experience.

Best wishes
Ben Parsons

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS BLOG THREAD?

The objective of this thread it to examine all the strengths and shortcomings of the draft proposal.  Please keep to the objective. You are welcome to add alternative perspectives, and views that are tangential, but the core of this discussion should stay on topic, namely an analysis of the draft proposal 3.

SKYPE DISCUSSION FOR CORE DISCUSSION GROUP

For those persons who have been invited to be part of the core group examining this proposal, there will be skype calls on Tuesday and on Wednesday, from 20h-21h.  You should try to attend 1 of these calls.  The purpose is to discuss what has already been posted on this blog, not simply to listen to other people’s suggestions. BLOG THREAD TERMINATION

This blog thread will exist until 27th February, at which point it will be closed, to allow consolidation and the final report to be made by 29th February.

At the end of the process, Division E will have decided upon the best option for moving forward with an alternative proposal.  Division E will present this option to the Reformation Committee of D59, for examination of validity.

Division E Conference – Winners announcement!!

Event News

Saturday 5th November, 2011
Division E conference, Bern

The division E fall conference was held by Bern club on 5th November. The event was a great success and we found the winners for the Humorous Speech and Table Topics contests in english and french. The 4 winners will now compete at District level in Basel, 25-27 November 2011.

We would like to praise the organising team, led by Helene Kristrom, Bern club president, without whose effort the conference would not have been possible.

In a new innovation, for the first time we mixed the french and english contests together. We want to offer support to french by giving it a higher profile within the division during its start up phase. This reflects the first steps taken in english language toastmastering in Switzerland, when a special effort was also made to build what we have today.

We thank all those who took part, contestants, audience, and organising committee, and especially the great patience shown by those who do not speak french.

The winners were:

English humorous speech
1. Cedric Copy, International Geneva TM,
2. Nicholas Ahmann, Zurich TM

English table topics
1. Laura Penn, International Geneva TM
2. Carina Schey, EPFL TM

French humorous speech
1. Sébastien Carriere, Verbissimo TM
2. Anastasia Vuillemen, EPFL TM

French table topics
1. Johannes Schneider, Bern TM
2. Anastasia Vuillemen, EPFL TM

German humorous speech

German table topics
